Firstly DRONE is an acronym for Dynamic Remotely Operated Navigation Equipment.

Drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle which is used to do various things.

An unmanned aerial vehicle is an aircraft without a human pilot on board. UAVs are a component of an unmanned aircraft system; which include a UAV, a ground-based controller, and a system of communications between the two

In aviation & in space, drone refers to an unpiloted aircraft or spacecraft another term for it is an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or UAV on earth, drone are often used for military purpose because they don't put a pilot's life at risk in combat zone.
